al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 5386

✧ Saad b. Ubadah al-Ansari, then al-Khazraji, a follower from Badr and Uhud, a captain, known as Abu Thabit, he stayed in Sham and passed away there.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ثنا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ الْيَامِيِّ عَنْ هُذَيْلِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ

جِئْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتٍ فَقُمْتُ مُقَابِلَ الْبَابِ فَاسْتَأْذَنْتُ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيَّ أَنْ تَبَاعَدْ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَاسْتَأْذَنْتُ فَقَالَ «وَهَلِ الِاسْتِئْذَانُ إِلَّا مِنِ النَّظَرِ»

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in a house, and I stood facing the door and asked permission to enter. He gestured to me to move back. Then I came and asked permission, and he said, “Is permission not sought except because of looking?”
