حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ

أَنَّ وَفْدَ هَوَازِنَ لَمَّا أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ وَقَدْ أَسْلَمُوا قَالُوا إِنَّا أَصْلٌ وَعَشِيرَةٌ وَقَدْ أَصَابَنَا مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ مَا لَا يَخْفَى عَلَيْكَ فَامْنُنْ عَلَيْنَا مَنَّ اللهُ عَلَيْكَ وَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ هَوَازِنَ ثُمَّ أَحَدُ بَنِي سَعْدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ زُهَيْرٌ يُكْنَى بِأَبِي صُرَدٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ نِسَاؤُنَا عَمَّاتُكَ وخَالَاتُكَ وحَوَاضِنُكَ اللَّاتِي كَفَلْنَكَ وَلَوْ أَنَّا لَحِقْنَا الْحَارِثَ بْنَ أَبِي شِمْرٍ وَالنُّعْمَانَ بْنَ الْمُنْذِرِ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ بِنَا مِنْهُ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ بِنَا لَرَجَوْنَا عَطْفَهُ وَعَائِدَتَهُ عَلَيْنَا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمَكْفُولِينَ ثُمَّ أَنْشَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ شَعَرًا قَالَهُ وَذَكَرَ فِيهِ قَرَابَتَهُمْ وَمَا كَفَلُوا مِنْهُ فَقَالَ

✧ That when the delegation of Hawazin came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Ji'ranah, having already embraced Islam, they said: 'We are a root and a clan, and affliction has befallen us that is not hidden from you. So bestow upon us as Allah has bestowed upon you.' A man from Hawazin stood up, then one of Banu Sa'd b. Bakr called Zuhayr, whose kunya was Abu Surad, and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, our women are your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, and your wet-nurses who took care of you. If we had joined al-Harith b. Abi Shimr and al-Nu'man b. al-Mundhir, and then there befell us from him what you have brought upon us, we would have hoped for his sympathy and kindness toward us. And you are the best of those who were taken care of.' Then he recited to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ poetry he had composed, mentioning their kinship and what they had done in caring for him. He said:
