حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ الشَّامِيِّ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَخْطُبُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الشَّامِ حَدَّثَنِي الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ يَعْنِي زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا يَزَالُ نَاسٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يُقَاتِلُونَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُمُ الْأَمْرُ» وَإِنِّي لَأَظُنُّكُمْ هُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الشَّامِ

✧ I heard Mu'awiya giving a sermon, saying: "O people of Syria, the Ansari narrated to me"—Shu'ba said, meaning Zayd b. Arqam—"that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'A group of people from my community will continue fighting for the truth until the decree comes to them.' And I think you, O people of Syria, are they."
