حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ وَزَكَرِيَّا بْنُ حَمْدَوَيْهِ الصَّفَّارُ قَالَا ثنا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ

كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عَلَى الْأَفْنِيَةِ فَمَرَّ بِنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكُمْ وَالْجُلُوسُ عَلَى الصُّعُدَاتِ؟» فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا جَلَسْنَا نَتَحَدَّثُ نَذْكُرُ اللهَ قَالَ «فَأَعْطُوا الْمَجَالِسَ حَقَّهَا» قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا حَقُّهَا؟ قَالَ «غَضُّ الْبَصَرِ وَرَدُّ السَّلَامِ وإِهْدَاءُ السَّبِيلِ وَحُسْنُ الْكَلَامِ»

✧ We were sitting in the courtyards, and the Prophet ﷺ passed by us and said: “What is with you and sitting on the elevated paths?” We said: O Messenger of God, we sat to converse and remember God. He said: “Then give the gatherings their due.” We said: O Messenger of God, and what is their due? He said: “Lowering the gaze, returning the greeting, guiding to the path, and good speech.”
