حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ثنا مَسْعُودُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْشُدُكَ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَأَنْشَدَهُ الرَّابِعَةَ مِدْحَةً لَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنْ كَانَ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الشُّعَرَاءِ يُحْسِنُ فَقَدْ أَحْسَنْتَ»

✧ A man from Banu Layth came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of God, I implore you"—he said it three times—then on the fourth he implored him with a eulogy for him. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "If any poet excels, you have excelled."
