حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانَ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ ثنا رِفَاعَةُ بْنُ هُرَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَدِّي عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

جِئْتُ أَنَا وَعَمِّي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ بَدْرًا فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَخْرَجَ مَعَكَ فَجَعَلَ يَقْبِضُ يَدَهُ وَيَقُولُ «إِنِّي أَسْتَصْغِرُكَ وَلَا أَدْرِي مَا تَصْنَعُ إِذَا لَقِيتَ الْقَوْمَ» فَقُلْتُ أَتَعَلَّمُ أَنْ أَرْمِيَ مَنْ رَمَى؟ فَرَدَّنِي

✧ I came with my paternal uncle to the Prophet ﷺ when he was heading to Badr. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I wish to go out with you." He began to take hold of my hand and say: "I consider you too young, and I do not know what you will do when you meet the enemy." I said: "Do I know how to shoot whoever shoots?" So he sent me back.
