حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا قُرَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِيرِينَ قَالَ بَلَغَتِ النَّخْلَةُ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ؓ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ قَالَ
فَعَمَدَ أُسَامَةُ إِلَى نَخْلَةٍ فَنَقَرَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ جُمَّارَهَا فَأَطْعَمَها أُمَّهُ فَقَالُوا لَهُ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى هَذَا وَأَنْتَ تَرَى النَّخْلَةَ قَدْ بَلَغَتْ أَلْفًا؟ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ أُمِّي سَأَلَتْنِيهِ وَلَا تَسْأَلُنِي شَيْئًا أَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أَعْطَيتُهَا»

✧ Usama went to a palm tree, tapped it, and extracted its heart, then fed it to his mother. They said to him: What led you to do this when you see the palm tree has reached a thousand? He said: "My mother asked me for it, and she does not ask me for anything I am able to give but that I give it to her."
