✧ The lineage of Abu Ubaidah b. al-Jarrah

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ثنا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ

كَانَتِ الشَّامُ عَلَى أَمِيرَيْنِ عَلَى أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ وَيَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَتُوُفِّيَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ وَاسْتَخْلَفَ خَالُهُ عِيَاضُ بْنُ غَنْمٍ أَحَدَ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ فِهْرٍ فَأَقَرَّهُ عُمَرُ ؓ ثُمَّ تُوُفِّيَ عِيَاضٌ فَأَمَّرَ مَكَانَهَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ عَامِرِ بْنِ جُذَيْمٍ ثُمَّ تُوُفِّيَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ فَأَمَّرَ مَكَانَهُ عُمَيْرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ

✧ Syria was under two commanders: Abu Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah and Yazid b. Abi Sufyan. Abu Ubaydah died and appointed as his successor his maternal uncle Iyad b. Ghanm, one of the Banu al-Harith b. Fihr, and Umar ؓ confirmed him. Then Iyad died, and he appointed in his place Sa'id b. 'Amir b. Judhaym. Then Sa'id b. 'Amir died, and he appointed in his place 'Umayr b. Sa'd.
