حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حُصَيْنٍ الْقَاضِي ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَبَيَانَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُتَوَسِّدٌ بُرْدَةً فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ وَقَدْ لَقِينَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ شِدَّةً وَبَلَغُوا مِنَّا الْجَهْدَ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا تَدْعُو لَنَا؟ فَقَالَ «قَدْ كَانَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ يُؤْخَذُ الرَّجُلُ فَيُمْشَطُ الْحَدِيدَ مَا دُونَ لَحْمِهِ وَعَظْمِهِ مَا يَصُدُّهُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ دِينِهِ»

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was reclining on a cloak in the shade of the Kaaba, and we had met severe hardship from the polytheists and they had exhausted us. I said, 'Won't you supplicate for us?' He said, 'Among those before you, a man would be seized and combed with iron down to his flesh and bones, and that would not turn him away from his religion.'
