حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرُّؤَاسِيُّ عَنْ حَسَنِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْقُرَشِيِّ

أَنَّ أُمَّ كَبْشَةَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ عُذْرَةَ قُضَاعَةَ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ائْذَنْ لِي أَنْ أَخْرُجَ فِي جَيْشِ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ إِنَّمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُدَاوِيَ الْجَرْحَى وَالْمَرْضَى أَوْ أَسْقِي الْمَرْضَى قَالَ لَوْلَا أَنْ تَكُونَ سُنَّةً وَأَنْ يُقَالَ فُلَانَةُ خَرَجَتْ لَأَذِنْتُ لَكِ وَلَكِنِ اجْلِسِي

✧ Umm Kabshah, a woman from ‘Udhrah of Quda‘ah, said: “O Messenger of God, permit me to go out with such-and-such an army.” He said, “No.” I said, “O Messenger of God, I do not intend to fight; I only intend to treat the wounded and the sick, or give water to the sick.” He said, “Were it not that it would become a sunnah and it would be said, ‘So-and-so went out,’ I would have permitted you. But sit.”
