حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصُّورِيُّ ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ عَنْ أُمِّ عَبْدِ اللهِ أُخْتِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ
أَنَّهَا بَعَثَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِقَدَحِ لَبَنٍ عِنْدَ فِطْرِهِ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ وَذَلِكَ فِي طُولِ النَّهَارِ وَشِدَّةِ الْحَرِّ فَرَدَّ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّى كَانَ لَكِ هَذَا اللَّبَنُ؟ قَالَتْ مِنْ شَاةٍ لِي فَرَدَّ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولَهَا أَنَّى كَانَتْ لَكِ هَذِهِ الشَّاةُ؟ قَالَتْ اشْتَرَيْتُهَا مِنْ مَالِي فَأَخَذَهُ مِنْهَا فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ أَتَتْهُ أُمُّ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَعَثْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِاللَّبِنِ مُرَائِيَّةً لَكَ مِنْ طُولِ النَّهَارِ وَشِدَّةِ الْحَرِّ فَرَدَدْتَ الرَّسُولَ فِيهِ فَقَالَ لَهَا «بِذَلِكَ أُمِرَتِ الرُّسُلُ أَنْ لَا نَأْكُلَ إِلَّا طَيِّبًا وَلَا نَعْمَلَ إِلَّا صَالِحًا»

✧ She sent to the Messenger of God ﷺ a bowl of milk at the time of his breaking the fast while he was fasting, and that was during the length of the day and intense heat. The Messenger of God ﷺ sent back to her: “How did you get this milk?” She said, “From a sheep of mine.” He sent back to her messenger: “How did you get this sheep?” She said, “I bought it with my own money.” So he took it from her. When it was the next day, Umm ‘Abd Allah came to him and said, “O Messenger of God, I sent you the milk as a gift for you because of the length of the day and intense heat, and you sent the messenger back about it.” He said to her, “With that the messengers were commanded: that we eat only what is pure and do only what is righteous.”
