✧ She was among the women from whom the Messenger of God ﷺ took the pledge, and with her was her maternal aunt, who wore gold rings and two gold bracelets. He kept turning his gaze away from her until, when he had finished, he said: “What is this? Would it please you for God to adorn you with ornaments of fire?” She said: I seek refuge in God from the Fire. So she removed her rings and threw them down before her, and she struggled with her bracelets but could not remove them, so she went to him and snapped them off, then threw them somewhere—we do not know what he did with them. She said: I said, “O Messenger of God, we women must adorn ourselves for our husbands; will you permit us two gold earrings?” He refused, saying: “It is enough for one of you to take two silver earrings, then take two threads dyed with saffron and rub them between her fingers until they turn yellow, and it will look like gold.”
