حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي الطَّاهِرِ بْنِ السَّرْحِ الْمِصْرِيَّانِ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو زَيْدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْغِمْرِ ثنا ضِمَامُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَقِيلِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ كَانَ مَعَ الْحَجَّاجِ لَمَّا قَتَلَ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ فَبَعَثَهُ إِلَى أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ

قُلْ لَهَا يَقُولُ لَكِ الْحَجَّاجُ اعْزِلِي مَا كَانَ لَكِ مِنْ مَالٍ عَنْ مَالِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فَقَالَتْ أَفْعَلُهَا بِابْنِ أَسْمَاءَ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَخْرُجُ مِنْ هَذَا الْحَيِّ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ رَجُلَانِ أَحَدُهُمَا يَكْذِبُ وَالْآخَرُ مُبِيرٌ» فَأَمَّا الْكَذَّابُ فَقَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ وَمَا أَحْسَبُهُ إِلَّا الْمُبِيرَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَكْرَهْ ذَلِكَ

✧ Say to her: al-Hajjaj says to you: Set aside whatever of your own wealth from the wealth of ʿAbd Allah b. al-Zubayr. She said: Would he do that to the son of Asmaʾ’? I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “From this quarter of Thaqif shall come two men, one of whom is a liar and the other a destroyer.” As for the liar, we have already known him; and I think the destroyer is none but him. So I returned to him and informed him, and he did not dislike that.
