حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ السَّبَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ قَالَتْ
خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمًا فَاتِرًا فَقُلْتُ مَا لِي أَرَاكَ فَاتِرًا فَقَالَ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ وَعَدَنِي وَمَا أَخْلَفَنِي فَظَلَّ يَوْمَهُ كَذَلِكَ وَلَيْلَتَهُ وَفِي الْبَيْتِ كَلْبٌ تَحْتَ نَضَدٍ لَنَا فَأَخْرَجَ وَأَخَذَ مَاءً بِيَدِهِ فَمَسَحَ بِهِ مَكَانَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ صُورَةٌ وَلَا كَلْبٌ وَكَانَ يُكَلَّمُ فِي كَلْبِ الْحَائِطِ الصَّغِيرِ فَمَا يَأْذَنُ فِيهِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out one day looking sluggish. I said, "Why do I see you sluggish?" He said, "Gabriel promised me and did not break [his promise], so he remained thus for that day and its night. In the house there was a dog under a couch of ours, so he took it out and took water with his hand and wiped its place with it. Then Gabriel came and said, 'We do not enter a house in which there is a picture or a dog.' He was consulted about the small dog of the garden, but he did not give permission for it."
