حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ شَيْبَانَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ هِشَامَ بْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ كَانَ يُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ وَيَقْرِي الضَّيْفَ وَيَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ وَيَفُكُّ الْعَانِيَ فَلَوْ أَدْرَكَكَ أَسْلَمَ فَهَلْ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ أَجْرٌ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّهُ عَمُّكِ كَانَ يُعْطِي لِلدُّنْيَا وَذِكْرِهَا وَجَمَالِهَا وَمَا قَالَ يَوْمًا قَطُّ اغْفِرْ لِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ»

✧ “O Messenger of God, Hisham b. al-Mughirah used to feed people, host guests, maintain ties of kinship, and free captives. If he had lived until your time he would have embraced Islam. Is there any reward for him in that?” He said: “He was your paternal uncle; he used to give for the sake of this world, its renown, and its adornment, and he never once said, ‘Forgive me on the Day of Judgment.’”
