حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَجُلٍ قَصِيرٍ فِي إِزَارٍ مَا عَلَيْهِ رِدَاءٌ فَكَلَّمَهُ وَمَا أَدْرِي مَا يُكَلِّمُهُ وَأَنَا بَعِيدٌ مِنْهُ وَبَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ الْقَوْمُ فَقَالَ «اذْهَبُوا بِهِ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «رُدُّوهُ» فَكَلَّمَهُ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ غَيْرَ أَنَّ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ الْقَوْمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اذْهَبُوا بِهِ فَارْجُمُوهُ» ثُمَّ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَخَطَبَ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُهُ فَقَالَ «كُلَّمَا نَفَرْنَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ خَلَّفَ أَحَدُهُمْ لَهُ نَبِيبٌ كَنَبِيبِ التَّيْسِ يَمْنَحُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْكُثْبَةَ مِنَ اللَّبَنِ وَاللهِ لَا أَقْدَمُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا نَكَّلْتُ بِهِ»

✧ I heard Jabir b. Samurah say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought Ma'iz b. Malik, a short man wearing only a waist-wrapper with no cloak. He spoke to him, and I do not know what he said to him, for I was far from him and people were between me and him. Then he said: "Take him away." Then he said: "Bring him back." He spoke to him, and I could hear, except that people were between me and him. Then he said: "Take him away and stone him." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and delivered a sermon while I heard him say: "Whenever we go out in the path of Allah, one of them stays behind with a bleating like the bleating of a billy goat, and gives one of the women a small amount of milk. By Allah, if I get hold of any of them, I will make an example of him."
