حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ الْعَسْقَلَانِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ زِيَادٍ
عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ الدَّارِيِّ أَنَّهُمُ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُمْ سِتَّةُ نَفَرٍ تَمِيمُ بْنُ أَوْسِ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ سَوْدَانَ بْنِ جَذِيمَةَ بْنِ دِرَاعِ بْنِ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الدَّارِ وَأَخُوهُ نُعَيْمُ بْنُ أَوْسٍ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ وَأَبُو هِنْدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَأَخُوهُ الطِّيبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ وفَاكِهُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ فَأَسْلَمُوا وَسَأَلُوا أَنْ يُعْطِيَهُمْ أَرْضًا مِنْ أَرْضِ الشَّامِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «سَلُوا حَيْثُ أَحْبَبْتُمْ» فَنَهَضُوا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ يَتَشَاوَرُونَ فِي مَوْضِعٍ يَسْأَلُونَهُ إِيَّاهُ فَقَالَ تَمِيمٌ أَرَى أَنْ نَسْأَلَهُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ وَكُورَتَهَا قَالَ أَبُو هِنْدٍ أَرَأَيْتَ مَلِكَ الْعَجَمِ الْيَوْمَ؟ أَلَيْسَ هُوَ فِي بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ؟ قَالَ تَمِيمٌ نَعَمْ

✧ From his father Abu Hind al-Dari that they came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, six persons: Tamim b. Aws b. Kharijah b. Sawdan b. Jadhima b. Dira' b. 'Adi b. al-Dar, his brother Nu'aym b. Aws, Yazid b. Qays, Abu Hind b. 'Abd Allah, his brother al-Tayyib b. 'Abd Allah—the Messenger of God ﷺ named him 'Abd al-Rahman—and Fakih b. al-Nu'man. They embraced Islam and asked him to give them land from the land of Syria. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Ask wherever you wish." They got up from him consulting one another about which place they would ask him for. Tamim said: "I think we should ask him for Jerusalem and its district." Abu Hind said: "Do you see the king of the Persians today? Is he not in Jerusalem?" Tamim said: "Yes."
