✧ Whose name is Hubayb Hubayb b. Mughaffal al-Ghifari, and he is Hubayb b. Muhammad b. Amr b. Mughaffal b. al-Wafiqah b. Haraam b. Ghifar b. Mulayl b. Damarah b. Bakr b. Abd Manat b. Kinanah b. Khuzaymah b. Mudrikah b. Ilyas b. Mudar b. Nizar b. Ma'd b. Adnan. It has been reported to me that he was named b. Mughaffal because he neglected to brand his camels, so they were not named.

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ السَّيْلَحِينَيُّ ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيِّ قَالَ

جَمَعَنَا الْمَجْلِسُ فِي أَطْرَابُلْسَ مَعَنَا هُبَيْبٌ الْغِفَارِيُّ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ صَاحِبَا رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو «أَفْضَلُ رَمَضَانَ» فَقَالَ الْغِفَارِيُّ «لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ» إِنَّمَا قَالَ اللهُ «فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ»

✧ The gathering brought us together in Tripoli, among us Hubayb al-Ghifari and Amr b. al-As, both companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Amr said: “The most virtuous is Ramadan.” Al-Ghifari said: “We do not differentiate between the make-up of Ramadan; Allah only said: ‘a number of other days.’”
