حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا أَبُو مُسْهِرٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ حَدَّثَنِي الْغَرِيفُ بْنُ عَيَّاشِ بْنِ فَيْرُوزٍ الدَّيْلَمِيُّ عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ قَالَ

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةِ تَبُوكَ فَجَاءَ نَاسٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ صَاحِبًا لَنَا قَدْ أَوْجَبَ قَالَ «فَلْيُعْتَقْ عَنْهُ رَقَبَةٌ يَفُكُّ اللهُ بِكُلِّ عُضْوٍ مِنْهُ عُضْوًا مِنْهُ مِنَ النَّارِ»

✧ We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition of Tabuk. Some people from Banu Sulaym came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, a companion of ours has made hellfire obligatory for himself (i.e., committed a deadly sin)." He said, "Let a slave be freed on his behalf. By every limb of it, Allah will ransom a limb of him from the Fire."
