حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مِنْدَهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا هَانِئُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ النَّخَعِيُّ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ سَوَّارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

«قَدِمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَمَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّ لِي بِوَجْهِي مِنْهُ وَجْهَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بِوَادِي الْعَرَبِ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي فَيُكَبِّرُ إِذَا رَفَعَ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ وَيُسَلِّمُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ إِذَا انْصَرَفَ حَتَّى أَرَى بَيَاضَ خَدِّهِ مِنْ هَهُنَا وَهَهُنَا»

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and it would not please me to have, in exchange for my face [i.e., my seeing him], the face of any man from the Bedouin Arabs. I saw him praying: he would say the takbīr when rising and when prostrating, and he would give salām to his right and to his left when he finished, until I could see the whiteness of his cheek from here and here.
