حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو صَخْرَةَ جَامِعُ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ
ضِفْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَأَمَرَ بِجَنْبٍ فَشُوِيَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الشَّفْرَةَ فَجَعَلَ يَجُزُّ بِهَا مِنْهُ فَجَاءَ بِلَالٌ يُؤْذِنُهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَأَلْقَىَ الشَّفْرَةَ وَقَالَ «مَا لَهُ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاهُ؟» قَالَ وَكَانَ شَارِبِي قَدْ وَفَي فَقَصَّهُ عَلَى سِوَاكٍ

✧ I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night and he ordered a stick to be brought, which was then sharpened. He took the stick and started scraping his own teeth with it, and then Bilal came to call him for prayer. He threw away the stick and asked, "Why are his hands dirty?" I said, "It's because he had just fulfilled a promise and cleaned his teeth with a miswak (a teeth cleaning twig)."
