حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عِقَالٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا أَبِي قَالَا ثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ ثنا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاشِعٌ قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِأَخِي مَعْبَدٍ لِيُبَايِعَهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ فَقَالَ «ذَهَبَ أَهْلُ الْهِجْرَةِ بِمَا فِيهَا» فَقُلْتُ فَعَلَى أَيِّ شَيْءٍ تُبَايِعُهُ؟ قَالَ «أُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ أَوِ الْإِيمَانِ وَالْجِهَادِ» فَلَقِيتُ مَعْبَدًا بَعْدُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ وَكَانَ أَكْبَرَهُمَا فَقَالَ صَدَقَ

I said: Then upon what will you accept his pledge? He said: "I will accept his pledge upon Islam, or faith, and jihad." Later I met Ma'bad, and I asked him, and he was the older of the two, and he said: He spoke the truth.
