حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ ثنا أَبِي ثنا بَقِيَّةُ عَنْ حَرِيزِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو رَاشِدٍ الْحُبْرَانِيُّ قَالَ
رَأَيْتُ الْمِقْدَادَ فَارِسَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا عَلَى تَابُوتٍ مِنْ تَوَابِيتِ الصَّيَارِفَةِ بِحِمْصَ قَدْ أَفْضَلَ عَنْهَا مِنْ عَظْمِهِ يُرِيدُ الْغَزْوَ فَقُلْتُ لَقَدْ أَعْذَرَ اللهُ إِلَيْكَ قَالَ أَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا سُورَةُ الْبَعُوثِ {انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا}

✧ I saw al-Miqdad, the horseman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, sitting on a chest from the chests of the money-changers in Hims, having become too large for it due to his bone size, intending to go on a military expedition. I said: Allah has excused you. He said: The surah of the sending forth refused us: {Go forth, light and heavy}.
