حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

أَنَّهُ رَأَى مُعَاوِيَةَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَفِي يَدِهِ قُصَّةٌ مِنَ الشَّعْرِ قَالَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا عُذِّبَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَتْ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ»

✧ He saw Mu'awiyah delivering a sermon on the pulpit with a lock of hair in his hand, and he heard him say, "Where are your scholars, O people of Madinah? I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ forbidding the like of this, and he said: 'The Children of Israel were punished only when their women adopted these.'"
