حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْقَاضِي ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ قَالَا ثنا مَرْحُومُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَطَّارُ ثنا أَبُو نَعَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ؓ قَالَ خَرَجَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى حَلْقَةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللهَ قَالَ آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَلِكَ؟ قَالُوا وَاللهِ مَا أَجْلَسَنَا إِلَّا ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْكُمْ تُهْمَةً لَكُمْ وَمَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ بِمَنْزِلَتِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَقَلَّ عَنْهُ حَدِيثًا مِنِّي وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ عَلَى حَلْقَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ؟» قَالُوا جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللهَ وَنَحْمَدُهُ عَلَى مَا هَدَانَا لِلْإِسْلَامِ وَمَنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِكَ قَالَ «آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَاكَ؟» قَالُوا آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَنَا إِلَّا ذَلِكَ قَالَ «أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْكُمْ تُهْمَةً لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ»

✧ From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri ؓ, who said: Mu'awiya came out to a circle in the mosque and said, "What made you sit?" They said, "We sat to remember Allah." He said, "By Allah, nothing made you sit except that?" They said, "By Allah, nothing made us sit except that." He said, "Indeed, I did not make you swear out of suspicion of you. No one of my standing with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has fewer hadiths from him than I. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to a circle of his Companions and said, 'What made you sit?' They said, 'We sat to remember Allah and praise Him for guiding us to Islam and blessing us with you.' He said, 'By Allah, nothing made you sit except that?' They said, 'By Allah, nothing made us sit except that.' He said, 'Indeed, I did not make you swear out of suspicion of you. Jibril ﷺ came to me and informed me that Allah ﷻ boasts of you to the angels.'"
