حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ ثنا أَبِي أَبَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ قَالَ
أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نَاسٍ وَنَحْنُ شَبَبَةٌ مُتَقَارِبُونَ فَأَقَمْنَا عِنْدَهُ عِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً وَكَانَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ رَحِيمًا رَقِيقًا حَلِيمًا فَظَنَّ أَنَّا قَدِ اشْتَقْنَا أَهْلَنَا وَاشْتَهَيْنَاهُمْ فَسَأَلَنَا عَمَّنْ تَرَكْنَا بَعْدَنَا فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ فَقَالَ «ارْجِعُوا إِلَى أَهْلِيكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا عِنْدَهُمْ وَعَلِّمُوهُمْ وَمُرُوهُمْ» وَقَالَ «إِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ أَحَدُكُمْ وَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْبَرُكُمْ»
Translation

- Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Rāhawayh
✧ We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among a group of young men of similar age and stayed with him for twenty nights. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was merciful, gentle, and forbearing. He thought that we missed our families and longed for them, so he asked us about those we had left behind, and we told him. He said: "Return to your families, stay with them, teach them, and command them." And he said: "When the prayer is due, let one of you call the adhan, and let the eldest of you lead the prayer."
