حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ أنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ لَقِيطِ بْنِ صَبِرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبٌ لِي حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ نَجِدْهُ فَأَطْعَمَتْنَا عَائِشَةُ تَمْرًا وَعَصَدَتْ لَنَا عَصِيدَةً إِذْ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَنْقَلِعُ فَقَالَ «هَلْ أَطْعَمْتِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ؟» قُلْنَا نَعَمْ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ دَفَعَ الرَّاعِي الْغَنَمَ إِلَى الْمُرَاحِ عَلَى يَدِهِ سَخْلَةٌ فَقَالَ «هَلْ وَلَدَتْ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاذْبَحْ شَاةً» ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَا تَحْسَبُنَّ أَنَّا ذَبَحْنَا الشَّاةَ مِنْ أَجْلِكُمَا لَنَا غَنْمٌ مِائَةٌ لَا نُرِيدُ أَنْ تَزِيدَ عَلَيْهَا إِذَا وُلِدَ لِلرَّاعِي بَهْمَةٌ أَمَرْنَاهُ فَذَبَحَ شَاةً

✧ I set out with a companion of mine until we reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but we did not find him. Aisha fed us dates and prepared for us some porridge. Then the Prophet ﷺ came walking briskly, swaying. He said, "Have you fed them anything?" We said, "Yes." While we were in that state, the shepherd drove the sheep to the enclosure, and in his hand was a newborn lamb. He said, "Has it given birth?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Then slaughter a sheep." Then he turned his face toward us and said, "Do not think" - and he did not say "Do not think" - "that we slaughtered the sheep because of you two. We have a hundred sheep, and we do not want them to increase beyond that. When a lamb is born to the shepherd, we order him to slaughter a sheep."
