حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الصَّابُونِيُّ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا زُرَيْقُ بْنُ السُّخْتِ ثنا أَبُو النَّضْرِ هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ الْبَجَلِيُّ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي كَعْبُ بْنُ عُجْرَةَ قَالَ
خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ سَبْعَةُ نَفَرٍ أَرْبَعَةٌ مِنْ مَوَالِينَا وَثَلَاثَةٌ مِنْ عَرَبِنَا مُسْنِدِينَ ظُهُورَنَا إِلَى مَسْجِدِهِ فَقَالَ «مَا أَجْلَسُكُمْ؟» قُلْنَا جَلَسْنَا نَنْتَظِرُ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ فَأَرَمَّ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَا يَقُولُ رَبُّكُمْ؟» قُلْنَا لَا قَالَ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ يَقُولُ مَنْ صَلَّى الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا وَحَافَظَ عَلَيْهَا وَلَمْ يُضَيِّعْهَا اسْتِخْفَافًا بِحَقِّهَا فَلَهُ عَلِيَّ عَهْدٌ أَنْ أُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَنْ لَمْ يُصَلِّهَا لِوَقْتِهَا وَلَمْ يُحَافِظْ عَلَيْهَا اسْتِخْفَافًا بِحَقِّهَا فَلَا عَهْدَ لَهُ عَلِيَّ إِنْ شِئْتُ عَذَّبْتُهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتُ غَفَرْتُ لَهُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us while we were seven people—four of our freedmen and three of our Arabs—leaning our backs against his mosque. He said, “What has seated you here?” We said, “We sat waiting for the prayer.” He paused briefly, then turned his face toward us and said, “Do you know what your Lord says?” We said, “No.” He said, “Your Lord says: Whoever prays the prayer at its time, guards it, and does not neglect it out of disregard for its right—he has a covenant from Me that I will admit him to Paradise. Whoever does not pray it at its time and does not guard it out of disregard for its right—he has no covenant from Me. If I will, I will punish him, and if I will, I will forgive him.”
