حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ قَائِدَ أَبِي حِينَ كَفَّ بَصَرُهُ فَإِذَا خَرَجْتُ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ فَسَمِعَ الْأَذَانَ بِهَا اسْتَغْفَرَ لِأَبِي أُمَامَةَ أَسْعَدَ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ فَمَكَثْتُ حِينًا أَسْمَعُ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ فَقُلْتُ إِنْ عَجْزٌ إِلَّا أَنْ أَسْأَلَهُ عَنْ هَذَا فَخَرَجْتُ بِهِ كَمَا كُنْتُ أَخْرُجُ بِهِ فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ الْأَذَانَ بِالْجُمُعَةِ اسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ فَقُلْتُ «يَا أَبَتَاهُ أَرَأَيْتَ اسْتِغْفَارَكَ لِأَسْعَدَ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ كُلَّمَا سَمِعْتَ الْأَذَانَ بِالْجُمُعَةِ؟» فَقَالَ أَيْ بُنَيْ كَانَ أَسْعَدُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ جَمَّعَ بِنَا فِي الْمَدِينَةِ قَبْلَ مَقْدِمِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي هَزْمٍ مِنْ حُرَّةِ بَنِي بَيَاضَةَ فِي نَقِيعِ الْخَضَمَاتِ قُلْتُ وَكَمْ أَنْتُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ؟ قَالَ أَرْبَعُونَ رَجُلًا

✧ I was my father's guide when he lost his sight. Whenever I took him out on Friday and he heard the call to prayer for the Friday prayer, he would ask forgiveness for Abu Umamah As'ad b. Zurarah. I remained for a while hearing that from him, so I said: It is nothing but incapacity unless I ask him about this. So I took him out as I used to take him out, and when he heard the call to prayer for the Friday prayer, he asked forgiveness for him. I said, 'O my father, what do you think about your asking forgiveness for As'ad b. Zurarah every time you hear the call to prayer for the Friday prayer?' He said, 'O my son, As'ad was the first to gather us for Friday prayer in Madinah before the arrival of the Messenger of God ﷺ, in a depression of the Harrah of Banu Bayadah in Naqi' al-Khadamat.' I said, 'How many were you that day?' He said, 'Forty men.'
