حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ «لَمْ أَتَخَلَّفْ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا حَتَّى كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ تَبُوكٍ إِلَّا بَدْرًا وَلَمْ يَعْتِبِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَحَدًا تَخَلَّفَ عَنْ بَدْرٍ إِنَّمَا خَرَجَ يُرِيدُ الْعِيرَ ? فَخَرَجَتْ قُرَيْشٌ مُغَوِّثِينَ لِعِيرِهِمْ فَالْتَقَوْا عَنْ غَيْرِ مَوْعِدٍ كَمَا قَالَ اللهُ تَعَالَى وَلَعَمْرِي إِنَّ أَشْرَفَ مَشَاهِدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي النَّاسِ لَبَدْرٌ وَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنِّي كُنْتُ شَهِدْتُهَا مَكَانَ بَيْعَتِي لَيْلَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ حَيْثُ تَوَافَيْنَا عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ»

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ regarding an expedition he undertook: "He did not miss any expedition until the expedition of Tabuk, except Badr. The Prophet ﷺ did not reproach anyone who stayed behind from Badr; he only went out seeking the caravan. Quraysh came out to protect their caravan, so they met without prior arrangement, as Allah the Exalted said. By my life, the noblest of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ battlefields among the people is Badr, but I would not love to have witnessed it in place of my pledge on the night of al-'Aqabah, when we gathered upon Islam."
