حَدَّثَنَا أَسْلَمُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْتَقَ سِتَّةَ أَعْبُدٍ فَجَاءَ وَرَثَتُهُ فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا شَيْئًا فَأَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ «لَوْ عَلِمْتُ ذَاكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ مَا صَلَّيْتُ عَلَيْهِ» فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَعْتَقَ اثْنَيْنِ وَاسْتَرَقَّ أَرْبَعَةً

Translation

✧ A man freed six slaves. His heirs came and found nothing, so they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him. He said, 'If I had known that, if Allah wills, I would not have prayed over him.' He drew lots among them and freed two and re-enslaved four.
