حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْعَدَنِيُّ قَالُوا ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ الرِّشْكِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ
بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَرِيَّةً فَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهِمُ عَلِيًّا فَمَضَى عَلَى السَّرِيَّةِ فَأَصَابَ عَلِيٌّ جَارِيَةً فَأَنْكَرُوا ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ فَتَعَاقَدَ أَرْبَعَةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالُوا إِذَا لَقِينَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرْنَاهُ بِمَا صَنَعَ قَالَ عِمْرَانُ وَكَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ إِذَا قَدِمُوا مِنْ سَفَرٍ بَدَأُوا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفُوا فَلَمَّا قَدِمَتِ السَّرِيَّةُ سَلَّمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَامَ أَحَدُ الْأَرْبَعَةِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا صَنَعَ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا صَنَعَ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ آخَرُ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا صَنَعَ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ الرَّابِعُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا صَنَعَ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُعْرَفُ الْغَضَبُ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «مَاذَا تُرِيدُونَ مِنْ عَلِيٍّ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ إِنَّ عَلِيًّا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ وَهُوَ وَلِيُّ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ بَعْدِي»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched a military expedition and appointed ʿAlī as commander over them. ʿAlī proceeded with the expedition and obtained a slave girl. They disapproved of that. Four men from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a pact, saying: “When we meet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we will inform him of what ʿAlī did.” ʿImrān said: “The Muslims, when they arrived from travel, would begin with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, greet him, then depart.” When the expedition arrived, they greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One of the four stood and said: “O Messenger of Allah, did you not see that ʿAlī did such-and-such?” He turned away from him. Then another stood and said: “O Messenger of Allah, did you not see that ʿAlī did such-and-such?” He turned away from him. Then another of them stood and said: “O Messenger of Allah, did you not see that ʿAlī did such-and-such?” He turned away from him. Then the fourth stood and said: “O Messenger of Allah, did you not see that ʿAlī did such-and-such?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to him, anger recognizable in his face, and said three times: “What do you want from ʿAlī? Indeed ʿAlī is from me and I am from him, and he is the ally of every believer after me.”
