حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ الْيَزِيدِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ كَاتِبُ الْوَاقِدِيِّ عَنِ الْوَاقِدِيِّ قَالَ
عِيَاضُ بْنُ غَنْمِ بْنِ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَدَّادِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ هِلَالِ بْنِ ضَبَّةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ فِهْرِ أَسْلَمَ عِيَاضٌ قَدِيمًا قَبْلَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَشَهِدَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةَ وَكَانَ بِالشَّامِ مَعَ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ فَلَمَّا حَضَرَتْ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ الْوَفَاةُ وَلَّى أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ عِيَاضَ بْنَ غَنْمٍ عَمَلَهُ الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْهِ فَأَقَرَّهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ حَتَّى مَاتَ وَكَانَ عِيَاضٌ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا سَمْحًا مَاتَ يَوْمَ مَاتَ وَمَا لَهُ مَالٌ وَلَا عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ لِأَحَدٍ وَتُوُفِّيَ بِالشَّامِ سَنَةَ عِشْرِينَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سِتِّينَ

✧ Iyad b. Ghanm b. Zuhayr b. Abi Shaddad b. Rabi'a b. Hilal b. Dabba b. al-Harith b. Fihr accepted Islam early, before al-Hudaybiyyah, and witnessed al-Hudaybiyyah. He was in Syria with Abu 'Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah. When death came to Abu 'Ubaydah, he appointed 'Iyad b. Ghanm over the office he had held. 'Umar b. al-Khattab confirmed him in that office until he died. 'Iyad was a righteous, generous man. He died without wealth and without debt to anyone. He died in Syria in the year 20 AH at the age of sixty.
