حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ أَيُّوبَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مثَلُ الَّذِي يَعْمَلُ السَّيِّئَاتِ ثُمَّ يَعْمَلُ الْحَسَنَاتِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ عَلَيْهِ دِرْعٌ ضَيِّقَةٌ قَدْ خَنَقَتْهُ فَكُلَّمَا عَمِلَ حَسَنَةً انْتَقَضَ حَلْقَةً ثُمَّ أُخْرَى حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ»

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The example of one who commits evil deeds then does good deeds is like a man wearing a tight coat of mail that has choked him; each time he performs a good deed, a ring is loosened, then another, until he comes out to the ground."
