✧ A messenger was sent among us whose tongue, truthfulness, and fidelity we knew. He called us to worship Allah alone, not associating anything with Him, and to abandon what our people and others besides them worshipped besides Him. He commanded us to do what is right and forbade us from what is wrong, and commanded us to pray, fast, give charity, and maintain family ties. He called us to what we knew, and he recited to us a revelation that came from Allah, which nothing else resembles. We believed him, had faith in him, and knew that what he brought was the truth from Allah. At that point our people parted from us, harmed us, and overpowered us. When they had reached with us what we detested and we were unable to defend ourselves against them, we went out to your land and chose you over anyone else. Al-Najashi said, 'Go, for you are sayūm (secure) in my land. Whoever insults you will pay a fine.'
