✧ Then the Messenger of God ﷺ sent an army to Mu'ta and appointed Zayd b. Haritha over them; if he is struck, then Ja'far b. Abi Talib is their commander; if Ja'far is struck, then Abdullah b. Rawaha is their commander. They set out until they met Ibn Abi Sabra al-Ghassani at Mu'ta, where there were gatherings of Arab Christians and Romans, and there were Tanukh and Bahram. Ibn Abi Sabra closed the fortress before the Muslims for three days, then they came out and met on green crops and fought a fierce battle. Zayd b. Haritha took the banner and was killed, then Ja'far took it and was killed, then Ibn Rawaha took it and was killed. Then the Muslims, after the commanders of the Messenger of God ﷺ, agreed upon Khalid b. al-Walid, and God routed the enemy and granted victory to the Muslims. He sent them in Jumada al-Ula.
