حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ

يُقَالُ لَهُ ثُمَامَةُ كَانَ عَلَى صَنْعَاءَ فَلَمَّا قُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ ؓ خَطَبَ فَبَكَى بُكَاءً شَدِيدًا فَلَمَّا أَفَاقَ واسْتَفَاقَ قَالَ «الْيَوْمَ انْتُزِعَتْ خِلَافَةُ النُّبُوَّةِ مِنْ أُمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ وَصَارَتْ مُلْكًا وجَبْرِيَّةً مَنْ أَخَذَ شَيْئًا غَلَبَ عَلَيْهِ»

Translation

✧ He was called Thumamah. He was in charge of San'a'. When 'Uthman ؓ was killed, he gave a sermon and wept profusely. When he regained consciousness and composure, he said: "Today the caliphate of prophethood has been wrested from the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ and has become kingship and tyranny. Whoever takes something overpowers it."
