حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ثنا مُعْتَمِرٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَنَشٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ قَائِلٌ بِكَفِّهِ هَكَذَا كَأَنَّهُ يُشَبِّرُ شَيْئًا «مَنْ فَارَقَ جَمَاعَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ شِبْرًا أَخْرَجَ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ رِبْقَةَ الْإِسْلَامِ وَالْمُخَالِفِينَ بَأَلْوِيَتِهِمْ يَتَنَاوَلُونَهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ وَرَاءِ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَمَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ غَيْرِ إِمَامِ جَمَاعَةٍ مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً»

✧ I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was gesturing with his palm like this, as if measuring something: “Whoever separates from the community of the Muslims by a handspan has removed the noose of Islam from his neck. And the dissidents will have their banners, which they will be reaching for from behind their backs on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever dies without an imam of the community dies a death of ignorance.”
