✧ "Those whom the angels take in death while wronging themselves" — they [the angels] said, "In what condition were you?" They said, "We were oppressed in the land." They said, "Was not God's earth spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?" Those — their abode is Hell, and evil is the destination. He said: They were a group of Muslims in Makkah who went out with a group of the polytheists to fight and were killed alongside them, so this verse was revealed: "Except the oppressed among men, women, and children who cannot devise a plan and are not directed to a way — for those, perhaps God will pardon them." Thus God excused those among them who had an excuse and destroyed those who had no excuse. Ibn Abbas said: I and my mother were among those who had an excuse.
