حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ أَبَانَ ثنا طَلْحَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ عَنْ بِلَالٍ ؓ قَالَ قَالَ

لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا بِلَالُ مُتْ فَقِيرًا وَلَا تَمُتْ غَنِيًّا» قُلْتُ وَكَيْفَ بِذَاكَ؟ قَالَ «مَا رُزِقْتَ فَلَا تَخْبَأْ وَمَا سُئِلَتَ فَلَا تَمْنَعْ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ لِي بِذَاكَ؟ فَقَالَ «هُوَ ذَاكَ أَوِ النَّارُ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to me: “O Bilal, die poor and do not die rich.” I said: And how is that? He said: “Whatever provision you receive, do not hoard it; and whatever you are asked for, do not withhold it.” I said: O Messenger of God, how can I do that? He said: “It is that, or the Fire.”
