✧ The night prayer of the Messenger of God ﷺ was obligatory when God, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "O you wrapped in garments, arise to pray the night, except a little" [Qur'an 73:1–2]. It was the first obligation, and they used to pray until their feet became cracked. God, Mighty and Majestic, withheld the end of the surah from them for a year, then He revealed: "He knows that you will not be able to keep count of it, so He has turned to you in mercy; recite, then, what is easy of the Qur'an" [Qur'an 73:20]. Thus the night prayer became voluntary.
