حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ الْكُوفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

إِنِّي لَا أَتَخَوَّفُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مُؤْمِنًا وَلَا مُشْرِكًا، أَمَّا الْمُؤْمِنُ فَيَحْجِزُهُ إِيمَانُهُ، وَأَمَّا الْمُشْرِكُ فَيَقْمَعُهُ كُفْرُهُ، وَلَكِنْ أَتَخَوَّفُ عَلَيْكُمْ مُنَافِقًا عَالِمَ اللِّسَانِ يَقُولُ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَيَعْمَلُ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ

✧ I do not fear for my community a believer or a polytheist. As for the believer, his faith restrains him, and as for the polytheist, his disbelief suppresses him. But I fear for you a hypocrite with a knowledgeable tongue who says what you recognize and does what you disapprove of.
