حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، ثَنَا مِسْعَرُ بْنُ كِدَامٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

أَلَمْ أُنَبَّأْ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ وَتَصُومُ النَّهَارَ ؟ قُلْتُ: إِنِّي أَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: " فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ بَخَصْتَ الْعَيْنَ، كُلَّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ، فَذَاكَ صَوْمُ الدَّهْرِ "، فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي أَجِدُ قُوَّةً، فَقَالَ: " صُمْ صَوْمَ دَاوُدَ، كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا

✧ "Have I not been informed that you pray at night and fast during the day?" I said: "I do that." He said: "If you do that, you will damage your eyes. Fast three days every month, for that is the fasting of a lifetime." I said: "I find myself strong." He said: "Fast the fast of Dawud: he used to fast one day and break his fast the next."
