حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصُّورِيُّ، نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ بْنِ حَلْبَسٍ قَالَ:

دَخَلْنَا عَلَى يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَائِدِينَ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ وَاثِلَةُ بْنُ الْأَسْقَعِ، فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ مَدَّ يَدَهُ، فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ فَمَسَحَ بِهَا وَجْهَهُ وَصَدْرَهُ، لِأَنَّهُ بَايَعَ بِهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: يَا يَزِيدُ كَيْفَ ظَنُّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ؟ قَالَ: حَسَنٌ. قَالَ: فَأَبْشِرْ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ: أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي، إِنْ خَيْرًا فَخَيْرٌ، وَإِنْ شَرًّا فَشَرٌّ

Translation

✧ We entered upon Yazid b. al-Aswad to visit him, and Wathilah b. al-Asqa entered upon him. When he saw him, he extended his hand, took his hand, and wiped it over his face and chest, because he had pledged allegiance with it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said to him: 'O Yazid, what is your expectation of your Lord?' He said: 'Good.' He said: 'Then rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Allah the Exalted says: I am as My servant thinks of Me. If good, then good; and if evil, then evil."'
