حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ إِشْكَابَ، نَا حُجَيْنُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ الْمَاجِشُونُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ قَالَ:
كَانَ سُوَيْدُ بْنُ غَفَلَةَ، وَزَيْدُ بْنُ صُوحَانَ وَثَالِثٌ مَعَهُمَا فِي سَفَرٍ، فَوَجَدَ أَحَدُهُمْ سَوْطًا فَأَخَذَهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبَاهُ: أَلْقِهِ، قَالَ: أَسْتَمْتِعُ بِهِ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهُ أَدَّيْنَاهُ إِلَيْهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ أَتْرُكَهُ، فَتَأْكُلَهُ السِّبَاعُ، فَلَقِيَ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ: أَصَبْتَ وَأَخْطَآ، وَقَالَ: إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مِائَةَ دِينَارٍ فِي زَمَنِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَجِئْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: عَرِّفْهَا عَامًا، فَعَرَّفْتُهَا، فَلَمْ تُعْرَفْ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: " عَرِّفْهَا عَامًا "، فَعَرَّفْتُهَا عَامًا، فَلَمْ تُعْرَفْ، مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " اعْرِفْ عِدَّتَهَا، وَوِعَاءَهَا، وَوِكَاءَهَا، وَاخْلِطْهَا بِمَالِكَ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ رَبُّهَا فَأَدِّهَا إِلَيْهِ

✧ Suwayd b. Ghafalah, Zayd b. Suhan, and a third person were with them on a journey. One of them found a whip and took it. His two companions said to him: Throw it away. He said: I will make use of it; if its owner comes, we will return it to him. That is better than leaving it for wild beasts to eat. Then he met Ubayy b. Ka'b and mentioned that to him, and he said: You were both right and wrong. He said: I found one hundred dinars during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and brought them to him. He said: Announce it for a year. I announced it, but it was not recognized, so I returned to him and he said: Announce it for a year. I announced it for a year, two or three times, but it was not recognized. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Know its number, its container, and its tie, mix it with your wealth, and if its owner comes, give it to him.
