حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْمَوَيْهِ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، ثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، نَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَنَفِيُّ، نَا سَلْمُ بْنُ زَرِيرٍ، ثَنَا أَبُو غَالِبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ:

تَفَرَّقَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ عَلَى إِحْدَى وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً، وَتَفَرَّقَتِ النَّصَارَى عَلَى اثْنَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً، وَأُمَّتِي تَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِمْ فِرْقَةً، كُلُّهَا فِي النَّارِ إِلَّا السَّوَادَ الْأَعْظَمَ ".

✧ The Children of Israel split into seventy-one sects, and the Christians split into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah will exceed them by one sect. All of them will be in the Fire except the great majority (al-sawad al-a'zam).
