حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، ثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى اللَّخْمِيُّ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
صُبُّوا عَلَيَّ مِنْ سَبْعِ قِرَبٍ مِنْ آبَارٍ شَتَّى حَتَّى أَخْرُجَ إِلَى النَّاسِ فَأَعْهَدَ إِلَيْهِمْ " قَالَ: فَخَرَجَ عَاصِبًا رَأْسَهُ ﷺ حَتَّى صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ، فَحَمِدَ اللهَ، وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " إِنَّ عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِ اللهِ خُيِّرَ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَبَيْنَ مَا عِنْدَ اللهِ، فَاخْتَارَ مَا عِنْدَ اللهِ "، فَلَمْ يُلَقَّنْهَا إِلَّا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَبَكَى، فَقَالَ: نَفْدِيكَ بِآبَائِنَا وَأُمَّهَاتِنَا وَأَبْنَائِنَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " عَلَى رِسْلِكَ، أَفْضَلُ النَّاسِ عِنْدِي فِي الصُّحْبَةِ، وَذَاتِ الْيَدِ: ابْنُ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ، انْظُرُوا هَذِهِ الْأَبْوَابَ الشَّوَارِعَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَسُدُّوهَا، إِلَّا مَا كَانَ مِنْ بَابِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ نُورًا

✧ Pour over me from seven water skins from different wells so that I may go out to the people and give them my final instructions." He said: He came out with his head bandaged ﷺ until he ascended the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "A servant among Allah's servants was given the choice between this world and what is with Allah, and he chose what is with Allah." No one understood it except Abu Bakr, and he wept, saying: "We ransom you with our fathers, mothers, and children." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Take it easy. The best of people to me in companionship and generosity is Ibn Abi Quhafa. Look at these doors opening into the mosque and close them, except what is from the door of Abu Bakr, for I saw light upon it."
