حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ، نَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ثَنَا خُلَيْدُ بْنُ دَعْلَجٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ: إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَزْعُمُونَ فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ: وَيَتْلُوهُ شَاهِدٌ مِنْهُ. أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّالِي ؟ فَقَالَ: وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي أَنَا هُوَ، وَلَكِنَّهُ لِسَانُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ

✧ I said to 'Ali b. Abi Talib: "People claim regarding the saying of Allah, exalted be His mention: 'And a witness from him follows him,' that you are the one who follows?" He said: "I wish I were him, but it is the tongue of Muhammad ﷺ."
