حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ شَيْبَةَ، ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثَنَا أَبِي، ثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ، عَنْ مُعَلَّى الْكِنْدِيِّ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَاشِرُ عَشَرَةٍ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، فَقَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، مَنْ أَكْيَسُ النَّاسِ وَأَحْزَمُ النَّاسِ ؟ قَالَ: أَكْثَرُهُمْ ذِكْرًا لِلْمَوْتِ، وَأَشَدُّهُمُ اسْتِعْدَادًا لِلْمَوْتِ قَبْلَ نُزُولِ الْمَوْتِ، أُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْأَكْيَاسُ، ذَهَبُوا بِشَرَفِ الدُّنْيَا وَكَرَامَةِ الْآخِرَةِ

Translation

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ as the tenth of ten, and a man from the Ansar came and said: “O Prophet of God, who is the shrewdest of people and the most resolute of people?” He said: “The one who remembers death most and is most prepared for death before death descends. Those are the shrewd ones. They have attained the honor of this world and the dignity of the Hereafter.”
