حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عِرْسٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ نَضْلَةَ الْمَدِينِيُّ، ثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِهْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ خَدِيجَةَ، قَالَتْ:

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، يَا ابْنَ عَمِّي، هَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ إِذَا جَاءَكَ الَّذِي يَأْتِيكَ أَنْ تُخْبِرَنِي بِهِ ؟ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " نَعَمْ يَا خَدِيجَةُ ". قَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ: فَجَاءَهُ جِبْرِيلُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَأَنَا عِنْدَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يَا خَدِيجَةُ هَذَا صَاحِبِي الَّذِي يَأْتِينِي قَدْ جَاءَ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: قُمْ فَاجْلِسْ عَلَى فَخِذِي الْأَيْمَنِ، فَقَامَ، فَجَلَسَ عَلَى فَخِذِي الْأَيْمَنِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: هَلْ تَرَاهُ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: تَحَوَّلْ فَاجْلِسْ عَلَى فَخِدِي الْأَيْسَرِ، فَجَلَسَ، فَقُلْتُ: هَلْ تَرَاهُ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: فَتَحَوَّلْ فَاجْلِسْ فِي حِجْرِي، فَجَلَسَ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ: هَلْ تَرَاهُ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، قَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ: فَتَحَسَّرْتُ وَطَرَحْتُ خِمَارِي، وَقُلْتُ لَهُ: هَلْ تَرَاهُ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا "، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: هَذَا وَاللهِ مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ، لَا وَاللهِ مَا هَذَا شَيْطَانٌ، قَالَتْ خَدِيجَةُ: فَقُلْتُ لِوَرَقَةَ بْنِ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ أَسَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ قُصَيٍّ ذَلِكَ، كَمَا

✧ I said: "O Messenger of God, O cousin of mine, if the one who comes to you comes, can you inform me of him?" The Messenger of God ﷺ said to me: "Yes, O Khadījah." Khadījah said: One day Jibrīl came to him while I was with him, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "O Khadījah, this is my companion who comes to me; he has come." So I said to him: "Stand and sit on my right thigh." So he stood and sat on my right thigh. Then I said to him: "Do you see him?" He said: "Yes." I said to him: "Move and sit on my left thigh." So he sat, and I said: "Do you see him?" He said: "Yes." I said to him: "Then move and sit in my lap." So he sat, and she said to him: "Do you see him?" He said: "Yes." Khadījah said: Then I uncovered myself and threw off my veil, and I said to him: "Do you see him?" He said: "No." So I said to him: "This, by God, is a noble angel; no, by God, this is not a devil."
